It’s time for a new Question of the Month, one which will see us attempt to answer a quandary that has been puzzling the gaming community since it was first told its princess was in another castle. Let’s find out more about our latest star blogger along with the challenge they’ve set us for January 2018.

The blogger

Chris is from the south-west of England, which he tells me is known for farming and a stereotypical pirate accent (which means I’m now going to forever picture him in my head with an eye-patch). He has been blogging on-and-off for around six years now but created OverThinker Y a year ago when he decided to become more serious about it, and feels that the community has helped him stick with his writing this time.

This blogger has a wonderful way of looking at things. His discussions about philosophical concepts as they relate to video games are interesting: not only do they leave you feeling as though you’ve learnt something, they have the habit of giving you a bit of a positive boost. Take a look at this one for example; it’s about how video games are more than just entertainment and can help us to grow as people in surprising ways.

Chris is also a talented composer (although I know he’s going to dispute that statement) and has written tracks dedicated to several bloggers in his Musical Mayhem series. In fact, it was one of his pieces that caused us to meet for the first time early last year: This Moment’s A Big One, Probably ended up becoming the theme for our GameBlast17 event and it’s highly likely the new version will star in our GameBlast18 plans. More about that soon!

The challenge

The question set for us by Chris this month is a pretty topical one, seeing as it’s January and we’re all setting our New Year resolutions. Here’s what he’s asking: which video game character is most likely to stick to their resolution, and what would it be?

If you’d like to get involved, publish your answer to Chris’s question at a time that suits you before 28 January 2018 and leave us a link below. There are no rules on word-limit or format so you can be as creative as you like: write a post, record a video, create a drawing, or impress us with another unique idea.

Our star blogger will choose their favourite entry and the winner will be announced at the beginning of February. Good luck to everyone who’d like to participate this month – we look forward to seeing your answers!

  1. Hey, look at that – I’m a star blogger!

My answer to my own question would be Frisk from Undertale, who’s one of the most determined characters in all of gaming (it’s kind of his whole thing). I don’t think anything could stop him from carrying out whatever resolution he set his mind on! As to what that resolution might be… well, let’s assume the nicest and say he’s a pacifist Frisk whose resolution is to help Toriel make butterscotch cinnamon pie for everyone!

(Hey, Teri Mae – if you’re reading this, I know Sheikah Plate is mostly Zelda, but you should definitely do a butterscotch cinnamon pie recipe!)

Also, just for the record, I don’t wear an eyepatch, but MAYBE I SHOULD.

  3. This new format sounds fun and that’s a challenging but fun question to start us off for the year. Good stuff!

    • Hopefully it’ll give everyone a bit more freedom in terms of format and timing. I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!
