GameBlast18: February 2018 update

Later Levels is taking part in GameBlast18 for SpecialEffect, an amazing UK-based charity which puts fun and inclusion back into the lives of those with physical disabilities by helping them to play video games. To find out more, please visit the official website or take a look at this post.

Since our last GameBlast18 update at the beginning of January, the lads and I have been working on the arrangements for our 24-hour marathon in March. We’ve also dipped our toes back into the streaming pool after some time away and have played a few games on our Twitch channel, to ease ourselves back into it gently and start testing our equipment ready for the big day. Here’s what we’ve been up to!

Stream schedule announced

As mentioned in our previous post, we’re going old-school for this marathon and want to recreate the vibe of having your friends over for an extended gaming session. That’s why we’ve gone for a mix of titles in our stream schedule: current versions of those we used to play when we were younger such as Street Fighter V and Resident Evil Remastered, and newer releases which invoke a retro feeling such as Overcooked.

The full schedule is available on our Twitch channel and reveals the eight games we’ll be playing from 08:00 GMT on Saturday, 03 March 2018 for 24-hours. Spoiler alert: to coincide with the Year of the RPG hosted by the awesome Athena over at AmbiGaming, we’ll be participating in a spot of virtual reality with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim! Come watch us duke it out with a Frost Troll or two.

Wheel of Forfeit and Bucket of Truth

Want to see us embarrass ourselves live on stream? Then send us your ideas for our Wheel of Forfeit, which will be spun every time we hit a £50 milestone forwards our £400 goal for SpecialEffect. We’ve received a few good ones so far – including staying in cosplay for the rest of the shift (Tim from GeekOut South-West) and playing a game with our feet (Luke from Hundstrasse) – but we still need more.

Or perhaps you’d prefer to ask our stream team a burning video-game-related question? If that’s the case, then send us your suggestions for our Bucket of Truth! We’ll randomly select a question from the vessel at the top of each hour, doing our best to give a full answer and get our audience involved in the conversation. Plus, it might help us stay awake after so many hours without sleep…

Special mentions

A few shout-outs:

  • A lot of very lovely people have donated to SpecialEffect via our JustGiving page, taking us up to almost 50% of our fundraising target already! We’ve added you into a special thank you section to show just how amazing you all are – we can’t thank you enough for your support.
  • Luna from GamersUnitedGG Blog has very kindly offered her services and will be helping promote GameBlast18 and SpecialEffect! Give her a follow on her social media channels and help her spread the word about this wonderful charity.
  • Rob from I Played The Game! will be taking part in his very own GameBlast18 marathon on Thursday, 22 February 2018 so make sure you join him for that! Take a look at this post for more details and give him a follow on his Twitch channel so you’re ready for the event.

  • With less than a month to go before our marathon stream, we’ve still got a bit of work ahead of us. Wish us luck and we’ll see you over on Twitch on Saturday, 03 March 2018!
